La Rochelle - Île de Ré
Rivedoux-Plage is aptly named. An S should
be added to Plage (beach) because this village,
the first one visitors cross when they enter the
island, is surrounded by beaches. Depending on the tide
and the wind, you will always find a sandy spot to enjoy
the mild climate and the scenery.
To the north, you can see the Pertuis Breton strait, the
coast of Vendée, oyster farmers (at low tide) and kite
surfers (at high tide).
To the east, you can see the bridge (beware of the
current) and the Atlantic harbour of La Rochelle with
cranes and cargo ships arriving from all the corners of
the world.
To the south, through the Pertuis d’Antioche strait, you
can see Oléron island, Aix island and the famous Fort
Boyard.
